Verrutop

Verrutop

Verrutop has been designed for specialist application by healthcare professionals including podiatrists and is used to treat verrucae and warts and is not intended for home use by the general public. Before treatment verrucae need to be prepared for the application of Verrutop which includeds debridement with a scalpel.

Unlike cryotherapy or topical chemical treatments Verrutop does not freeze or burn the tissue. It acts by mummifying the verruca cells, causing denaturisation and dessicates the verruca so when it falls off there is new skin underneath.

Treatments are quick and painless

  • What is Verrutop?

Verrutop is a topical nitrizinc complex solution containing nitric acid, organic acids, zinc and copper salts used to treat verrucae and warts

  • How does it work?

When verrutop is applied to verrucae a chemical reaction occurs, the tissue is mummified by dehydration and cellular destruction. During treatment, the verruca can change different colours including white/grey and yellow. During treatment, it is recommended to apply surgical spirit twice daily to aid with the mummification process. Over time the verruca will spontaneously detatch.

  • Is Verrutop suitable for me?

    • If you have healthy skin then yes Verrutop is suitable for you. It is not recommended to be used on inflamed skin or for other lesions
    • Is suitable for individuals over 6 years old.
    • Is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
    • Verrutop is unsuitable for individuals with peripheral arterial, venous disease or neuropathy.
  • Can I treat more than one verruca?

Yes, more than one verrucae can be treated at a time, one vial of Verrutop will allow for multiple small verrucae, approximately 2-3 medium-sized verrucae to be treated however it is not recommended to spread the product too thinly as it will become less effective. For large verrucae, it may be necessary to treat with more than one ampule.

  • How many treatments will I need?

Each verruca will be different, some resolve after a few treatments with an average of 3-6 treatments leading to a 90% success rate, it is recommended to leave 10 - 14 days between treatments.

  • Is Verrutop 100% guarenteed

Unfortunately, as with all verrucae treatments, there is no removal guarantee due to the nature of the virus and the host cells.

  • Is Verrutop painful

The procedure itself is not painful and you do not require an anaesthetic. After application, you might experience some tingling or temporary discomfort on the site of the verruca. You may find it more comfortable due to the removal of the excess overlying skin. No dressings are required.

What's involved?

An initial consultation  will be needed to assess the verrucae, discuss and record medical history and medications. The podiatrist will then conclude if Verrutop is the right treatment for you.

If you would like to proceed, then treatment can begin.

Any overlying verrucae cells will be removed by debriding with a scalpel. This allows for the Verrutop to reach the underlying lesion.

One vial of Verrutop will be applied to the verruca or verrucae and allowed to dry. One vial will treat 2-3 medium sized verrucae, for large verrucae it maybe necessary to apply another ampule.

At home it is recommended to dab the verrucae with surgical spirit twice daily to help with the mummification and detachment process.

After 10- 14 days you will need  to return to the clinic to have the verrucae assessed and any further treatments needed.

It can take several treatments for the Verrutop to work with 90% success rate in 3-6  applications.
